Fiona McArthur is a chocolatier in Campbeltown, a small town of 7,000 inhabitants three and a half hours’ drive from Glasgow, near Cape Mull of Kintyre where Paul McCartney had a house with his wife Linda. Campbeltown is also known for being the capital of Whiskey. But Fiona McArthur’s thing is chocolate: without alcohol, without milk, without eggs, vegan chocolate sold in plastic-free boxes.

Very Hollywood, some will joke, yet it all started far from the glitter, in his mother’s kitchen, four years ago, after a three-day internship in London. Fiona McArthur first sold salted caramel, then chocolate mousse, to friends and family before opening her small chocolate factory, the Fetcha chocolate factory. When she received a call from the Oscars organizers, she initially thought it was a scam. But its chocolates will indeed be offered to nominees in Oscar gift bags, worth $125,000. Fiona McArthur still can’t believe that her Fetcha chocolates will be eaten by Bradley Cooper or Margot Robbie on March 10, during the Oscars, while she watches the ceremony at home in front of the television.

Cinema-themed chocolates

Especially since Fiona McArthur is a big movie buff. And yet, the organizers of the Oscars knew nothing of his passion for cinema. She has often played an extra in films and since she was little she has loved going to the seafront at the Picture House in Campbeltown, one of the first venues built in Scotland in the art deco style. What could be more wonderful than creating chocolates for the 7th art?

Fiona McArthur's movie-themed vegan chocolates

Fiona McArthur offers, for example, a truffle with sparkling sugar inside whose flavor explodes in the mouth, in homage to the film Oppenheimer on the atomic bomb. The chocolatier also offers a white ganache enclosed in a pink heart to barbiethe film by Margot Robbie, which we can hope will win all the trophies, because Barbie’s journey, from Barbieland to the real world, this journey, like that of so many women, is not easy.
