Students and parents of students are increasingly terrorized by the violence between rival gangs near the schools of Valence in the Drôme. A school decided to close its doors on Monday June 5 after a new brawl.

A silent playground, empty classrooms. The Brossolette school in Valence (Drôme) is emptied of its students and teachers under pressure from rival gangs. Classes were suspended on Monday June 5, and the teachers are distraught. “For some time now, the goal has been to terrorize. And it’s done“, notes Serge Bessede, School principal. This Monday around 1:30 p.m., a fight broke out between two rival gangs. Weapons were seen.

Classes resume Thursday, June 8

Security measures will be reinforced in front of the school, and a psychological monitoring unit will be set up. The goal for the director is to resume classes on Thursday, June 8. “We make children succeed and we will try to continue (…) we are dejected and terrified, but that is where we will find our resources”, he explains. For weeks Valencia has been in the grip of a turf war in several neighborhoods amid drug trafficking.
