To fight against food waste, some municipalities have decided to organize themselves. In a school canteen in Eure, unfinished dishes no longer end up in the trash.

In a school canteen Tournedos-Bois-Hubert (Eure), a hundred meals are served every day. But at the end of the meal, there is usually a lot of food that goes in the trash. A mess that has even been quantified. “We realized that after one school year, we had managed to weigh 1,050 kg (…), that’s 7 kg a day“, Explain Sébastien Bonneau, president of the intermunicipal union for schools.

To limit this food waste, the intermunicipal school association has therefore launched an experiment: to offer baskets with the surplus that will not have been served to the children. “It varies from one to five baskets a day“, slip Sebastien Bonneau. In each basket, you can find a starter and a main course, or a main course and a dessert. Once made, they are put on the Too Good To Go application, so that they can be sold during the day.
