A school in Saint-Alban (Côtes-d’Armor) was affected by a series of carbon monoxide poisonings on the morning of Friday, December 8. The hospitalized victims are all said to be out of danger.

Five hours after the incident, worried parents still came to have their children tested by emergency services in Saint-Alban (Côtes-d’Armor). Around 11 a.m., Friday December 8, Saint-Guillaume primary school was urgently evacuated. Carbon monoxide poisoning was then suspected. 76 students and five adults were taken care of in the community hall. The plan “numerous victims” was quickly activated. 55 firefighters, six SAMU teams and four helicopters were deployed to facilitate the evacuation of schoolchildren.

Six children placed in a hyperbaric chamber

25 victims were re-oxygenated on site, and 23 others were hospitalized. Six children had to be placed in a hyperbaric chamber at the Brest University Hospital (Finistère). The exact causes of the incident are not yet known. “At the stage we are at, it seems that there is a malfunction in the oil boiler which equips this school”, indicated David Cochu, sub-prefect of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor). Friday evening, the hospitalized victims were all out of danger.
