“I am not exaggerating in describing the facts as terrifying. It’s a horror story, ”insisted the judge Monday at the Montreal courthouse. The magistrate outlined the importance of denouncing violence against women. “A sentence must reflect the values of society,” he said.
The 16-year-old victim was under the ‘absolute’ control of Justice Marshall for months in 2020 and 2021. Her tormentor punched her at least once in the face, in addition to threatening to kill her countless times in person and by text messages. “I will crush your face with my feet on the asphalt”, he wrote in particular.
“He was absolutely indifferent to the fear of the victim,” denounced Judge Mascia.
The teenager was initially consenting to Justice Marshall carving her initials with a knife on her chest, but she soon asked him to stop due to the pain. But Justice Marshall ignored the pleas and continued to engrave the letters.
“Why would an 18-year-old man carve his initials on a high school student? Why did he have to mark her [tag] How do you mark an animal? “, released the judge.
The knife lover was sexually aroused by “knife games [knife play] erotic. He thus slid the blade of his knife for a long time over the body of the teenager. She had first agreed to try the game, before claiming in vain that everything stop.
Justice Marshall was finally landed as a teenager, when she was with a 17-year-old boy. The assailant then pushed the boy against the wall and put a knife to his throat. He then punched him in the face. The teenager’s father then intervened, but Justice Marshall brandished a knife and fled with the victim.
“Can you imagine what the parents had to go through? A man armed with a knife comes into your house and takes your daughter? I can’t imagine,” the judge railed.
Crown prosecutor M.e Geneviève Rondeau-Marchand asked for four years in prison for the numerous charges, while the defense lawyer, Ms.e Stéphanie Gariépy, demanded less than two years in prison. The defense insisted on the “difficult journey” of the accused and on his “deep remorse”.
Judge Mascia instead agreed with the suggestion of the Prosecution, however granting a “reduction” of six months because of the age of the accused. The magistrate thus rejected the arguments of the defence. The young man had indeed no remorse and no regrets a month earlier.
Justice Marshall will be subject to three years probation. He will be prohibited from holding a knife, except for the “consumption of a meal”.
