The mayor of the town, Florence Gauthier, arrived among the first on the spot around 5 p.m. She was driving on departmental 31 between Rouffignac and Fleurac when she came face to face with a fire, at a place called La Dauge. A passerby had just called for help.
The flames crossed the road
Firefighters from Thenon, Montignac and Rouffignac in particular intervened with many vehicles to control the flames fanned by the wind, which crossed the road to reach a pine forest. One hectare burned, the firefighters fixed the fire around 7:30 p.m. but they were still on site at the start of the evening to avoid possible resumptions.
The fire started on the side of the road, the gendarmerie suspects that it is a badly extinguished cigarette butt. According to the mayor of the town, it could also be electric wires that came into contact. The gendarmes went to the scene to make observations.
