A river polluted by toxic foam in Brazil

In Salto, a city of 120,000 inhabitants located 100 kilometers from Sao Paulo (Brazil), the Rio Tietê is polluted by toxic foam.

During the dry season, the wastewater discharged into the river (1150 kilometers long) forms a toxic foam composed of phosphates and phosphorus present in biodegradable household products such as soap, laundry detergent or shampoo.
