The financing of private education is at the heart of a parliamentary report published Tuesday April 2. The rapporteurs denounce opaque financing.
A parliamentary report, made public on Tuesday April 2, could revive the rivalry between public and private education. It undermines public funding for private contract education in France. The rapporteurs, deputies Paul Vannier (LFI) and Christopher Weissberg (Renaissance), interviewed nearly 60 organizations. They denounce opaque financing of private education which amounts to 9.04 billion euros in 2024.
A lack of social diversity
The report also points to association contracts with the State, tacitly renewed from year to year, despite insufficient inspections, with blind spots in the control of religious instruction. The deputies also denounce a lack of social diversity. In 2023, the share of scholarship students will only reach 9.8% in private colleges, compared to 27.8% in public colleges. Private education educates 2 million children in France, or 17% of students. The sector is more than 75% financed by the State.
