By the end of 2022, a fund to help repair household appliances will be created. It must encourage consumers to repair rather than buy new.
Defective household appliances, often thrown away, can sometimes be saved to find a second life. The State has decided to set up financial aid to push the French to make repairs. Friday, October 21, a technician comes to an individual for a dishwasher that no longer washes. The repair visit costs 95 euros, which is too much for some. “Often the brake will be the price of the part or the price of the trip”, explains Sébastien Mignon, technician. After two hours of intervention, the dishwasher works.
“We were going to throw something that was still working in the trash. And then, for a quarter of the price of a new one, it went away for a while”, says Philippe Perchoc, customer. A repair fund will be created by the end of the year. Manufacturers will thus pay 15 euros in aid for a vacuum cleaner and 25 euros for a washing machine or a fridge. In a workshop near Paris, the reduction will be deducted from the invoice. In 85% of cases, breakdowns can be repaired.
