a relaxation of credit conditions is “under study”, assures Sacha Houlié

The Ministry of the Economy is “studying the hypothesis” of a loosening of credit conditions, according to Sacha Houlié, president of the Laws Committee at the National Assembly.

Sacha Houlié defends on franceinfo the possibility of “to loosen” the conditions for granting real estate loans. The deputy Renaissance de la Vienne, president of the Laws Committee at the National Assembly, claims to have discussed with Bruno Le Maire about a relaxation of these conditions, and that the Minister of the Economy said “to study this hypothesis”.

“There are plenty of French people who are at the limit of borrowing, who could but who cannot borrow because the rules are too strict.” The debt ratio of borrowers, including the cost of credit insurance, is currently limited to 35% of their income. “We must unblock this situation to revive an entire part of the housing sector, which is currently at a standstill.” Possible avenues would be to “loosen some conditions, either the rate of 35%, or the exemptions which are open”.

Until then, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire ruled out any relaxation of credit conditions, despite requests from players in the sector. Sacha Houlie claims to have “naturally” spoke with Bruno Le Maire and that he is now studying the possibility of relaxing credit conditions to encourage the relaunch of acquisitions in real estate.

The Minister of the Economy, as president of the High Financial Stability Council, received a request to this effect from several Assembly committee chairmen, including Sacha Houlié, as well as the general budget rapporteur. Jean-René Cazenave.
