The eighth wave of Covid-19 is already well established in France. The doctor Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist for France Télévisions, provides an update on the epidemic for 12/13, Monday October 10.

The eighth wave of Covid-19 continues to mount. Nearly 43,000 cases are recorded every day, and all the indicators (incidence rate, hospitalizations, etc.) are increasing. However, barrier gestures are adopted less and less by the French. “We expected it, and it’s confirmed: the latest survey by Public Health France shows it, wearing a mask, which is perhaps the most important measure after vaccination to fight the epidemic, at the start of the year, 71% of the French adopted it, but today, we have fallen to 16%”reports Dr. Damien Mascret, doctor and journalist France Télévisions, present on the set of 12/13, Monday October 10.

Since the survey was carried out in mid-September, has the situation changed since then? “Mid-September, we were at the start of the eighth wave (…), now we are climbing seriously enough to have hospitalizations”, continues the doctor, who specifies that currently, 960 admissions to the hospital are carried out each day, that is to say an increase of 40% compared to last week. “We see that there are serious cases, and let’s not forget that the flu is coming”, adds Dr. Damien Mascret. The latter also explains that only 6 out of 10 French people in the target area intend to be vaccinated against the flu, before recalling the need to do the booster shot against Covid-19.
