It’s official, an SNCF strike will take place over the Christmas weekend! While hundreds of thousands of travelers rejoicing at the idea of joining their families for the holidays, Friday, December 23, it will finally be difficult to get around. And for good reason, on Friday two out of three TGVs should run on the Atlantic and Mediterranean axes, and one in two trains on the North axis. According to SNCF forecasts, the influx of passengers should be maximum this Friday and Monday, where a return to normal traffic is expected.
A strike deemed inadmissible by Olivier Véran: “Is it essential to strike on a Christmas weekend? The answer is no, ”he said at the microphone of France Inter. “At Christmas, we don’t go on strike, we make a truce”, he also hammered, calling on the strikers “to reconsider their position” to allow the French not to remain isolated for Christmas.
What compensation for travelers?
On the airwaves of Franceinfo, the CEO of SNCF Voyageurs, Christophe Fanichet, announced that he intended to compensate travelers whose trains will be canceled: “We will reimburse, for travelers whose train will be canceled, 200%”he announced this Wednesday, December 21, 2022.
“I want to apologize to the company. This is unacceptable. The French need to breathe. Not being able to travel during a period which is that of Christmas, sincerely it is unacceptable”, regretted the boss while specifying that this strike should cost more than 10 million euros.
