As World Cancer Day takes place on Sunday February 4, new treatments are bringing relief to patients thanks to light.
Light is used to relieve many cancer patients. It helps treat the side effects caused by cancer treatments. Light therapy sessions “prevent side effects, burns on the skin (…) or burns on the mucous membranes”, explains Doctor Camélia Billard-Sandu, head of the radiology-oncotherapy hospitalization department at the Gustave establishment. -Roussy de Villejuif (Val-de-Marne).
Protect and regenerate
Eight minutes under this red light helps protect patients’ skin for their next chemotherapy sessions. Beyond protection, this light can even regenerate damaged tissues. Light therapy sessions are all covered by the hospital.
