a record of 23 meetings, the French Grand Prix on July 24, Miami … The key moments of the 2022 calendar

The current season has not yet delivered its verdict, but the spotlight is already on the upcoming edition, the schedule of which was unveiled on Friday, October 15. A record 2022 season, since 23 Grands Prix will compose it, against 22 in 2021. This is unheard of in F1. Already announced, the new stage in Miami is on the program for the month of May. Here are the key moments of the season.

March 20, the first Grand Prix in Bahrain

Because good news never comes alone, March 20 will mark the return of spring but also, and above all, of Formula 1. Like this year, the start of the season will be given in Bahrain. The Persian Gulf circuit is the first event on the calendar, and could remain so in the longer term.

The following weekend; the drivers will stay in the Arabian Peninsula for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. A novelty, because the Jeddah circuit will be held for the first time … in December 2021, in the penultimate position before the final bouquet in Abu Dhabi. A double-dose four months apart for the Saudi public, therefore.

May 8, Miami discovers Formula 1

The case was in the pipes, it was definitely confirmed on Friday: the Miami Grand Prix will be held for the first time on May 8. For ten years, Florida will host its own race, although the circuit has yet to be homologated by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). A news that will delight the American public, yet already spoiled by the Austin Grand Prix (October 23).

The United States are not the only doubly in the spotlight, as Italy also recovers two parts of a coveted cake. The circuits of Emilia-Romagna and Monza are indeed on the program in 2022.

July 24, France at the center of the world

On July 24, it’s a safe bet that your sofa will take precedence over the beach towel. The traditional stage of Castellet will indeed be held on this date, in a very colorful day for French sport. In addition to the Paul-Ricard circuit, the arrival of the Tour de France for men and the start of the Tour de France for Women are also scheduled for the same Sunday! At least we will have warned you beforehand.

Two months earlier, the paddock will have already set foot on the Riviera, during the Monaco Grand Prix (May 29).

November 20, the der in Abu Dhabi

As is customary since 2014, the season will conclude in the United Arab Emirates. The Abu Dhabi circuit will take place on November 20, the day before the opening match of the World Cup in Qatar. The “Sunset Grand Prix” will mark the end of a long, trying and certainly filled with suspense season.

Japan, Singapore, Australia and Canada back

Major change compared to the 2021 edition, several circuits, which could not be maintained due to the Covid-19 pandemic – Canada (June 19), Singapore (October 2), Australia (April 10), Japan (October 9) – are back.

They replace the Grands Prix of Portugal, Styria, Turkey and Qatar. The latter will celebrate its first edition next November, but is not in the 2022 program, due to the Football World Cup played in the country in November. It will then return in 2023 for ten years. China, already deprived of a race for the past two years because of the pandemic, is still absent.
