“We have honed a lot of processes which will be very useful for the Olympic Games which will have a much larger dimension than our Rugby World Cup”explained Saturday October 28 on franceinfo Jacques Rivoal, president of the organizing committee for the 2023 World Cup. The competition ends this Saturday evening with the final between South Africa and New Zealand.

The opportunity for the president of the organizing committee to take stock of this event. In terms of security, organization of transport, mobility, “there was a lot of preparatory work with the State services. We worked closely with the transport services which reinforced the resources (SNCF, RATP, Aéroports de Paris). There was a mobilization of the entire France so that we can demonstrate that France has real know-how in terms of major sporting events.”

This Rugby World Cup was “a tremendous success, we saw great moments of fraternal jubilation, supporters who mixed together, arriving at the stadium together and who did not need to be separated”rejoiced Jacques Rivoal. “We won over new audiences, many people came to enjoy, sing, dress up and experience great moments of brotherhood. That’s our greatest mission and what we are most happy with. than a Rugby World Cup can do that.”

800 million euros in turnover

The turnover of this 10th World Cup should be around 800 million euros according to the organizing committee, with an expected profit of 45 to 50 million euros. “We will be at the level of what we had planned” regarding the budget. “It is also a satisfaction even if it is not the priority which is above all to offer our fellow citizens a major popular festival. We wanted to demonstrate that we were capable of organizing a major sporting event while being profitable.”

The defeat of the French team in the quarter-final had an impact “fairly marginal in terms of the excitement around the event. We have two open fan zones in Saint-Denis and Paris and I think they will be full for the final” this Saturday evening.
