A meeting “in solidarity with the Palestinian people” organized by LFI elected officials, political and union collectives, scheduled for Thursday October 2 in Paris, will not be banned, AFP learned on Wednesday from the police headquarters. The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin had already mentioned this gathering on Monday on BFMTV/RMC, announcing that it would not be banned by the prefect of police Laurent Nuñez because, he said, “we have confidence in the organizers”.
The police headquarters explained that Laurent Nuñez had been “requested in advance by the organizers of this static gathering (…) as part of the united call of the national collective for a just and lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis”. “Given the content of the call to demonstrate and the declaring organizers, this demonstration will not be prohibited, but will be strictly supervised”, added the police headquarters. This gathering is planned for Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Place de la République.
Concerning another declared demonstration, organized in particular by LFI, EELV and the CGT and scheduled to take place on Saturday in the capital, Laurent Nuñez will receive the organizers on Thursday “to examine the feasibility of the route envisaged for this event”, specified the police headquarters. Last week, thousands of people took part in a rally in Paris “of support for the Palestinian people” prohibited by the authorities. A prefectural ban which had been validated by the administrative court.
