Every year, 28 million slots are wasted by appointments not kept by patients. To combat the proliferation of appointments, last minute cancellations or simple oversights, the Senate adopted an amendment in the Social Security budget project on Thursday, November 16. Its object? “The creation of a lump sum paid at the expense of policyholders who do not honor a medical appointment.”
A deposit upon making an appointment?
Some doctors even want patients to pay a deposit when making an appointment. “A few euros can be enough. (…) This can prevent the patient from making three appointments with three practitioners, then going to the first one who becomes available and forgetting to cancel the other two”, comments a doctor. The “rabbit tax” has not yet been adopted by the government. It will be discussed during the National Convention of Physicians.
