Imposing a penalty of five euros on the patient who does not show up is the remedy prescribed by the government to combat unfulfilled appointments. A measure of guilt, denounces the main patients’ association. It divides the French interviewed by the France Télévisions teams. “It happened to me that I couldn’t go to a meeting that I had planned for x reasons”admits a man. “There are too many people who make 1, 2, 3 or 4 appointments”, deplores a passerby. Entry into force in 2025
Every year, 27 million medical appointments are not kept, a practice that annoys doctors. “The tax taken by the government aims to make our fellow citizens responsible and aware”, summarizes Doctor Franck Devulder, president of the confederation of French medical unions. The government plans to ask each patient to give a bank imprint to the professional or the appointment booking platform. In the event of absence within 24 hours’ notice, the doctor may charge the sum of 5 euros. The government promises entry into force in January 2025.
