Émile-Antoine Roy-Sirois, a 31-year-old Montrealer, lost his life to Russian tank attacks in Siversk, eastern Ukraine, on July 18, as first reported by The Journal of Montreal Saturday.
The information was then relayed by the American magazine Politico. Two American fighters, Luke “Skywalker” Lucyszyn and Bryan Young, as well as a Swede, Edvard Selander Patrignani, were with Émile-Antoine Roy-Sirois when they were hit by shelling, according to their commander, Ruslan Miroshnichenko.
“Today at 8:30 a.m. Bryan, Edvard, and Emile risked their lives under heavy artillery fire to save their brother Luke,” another foreign fighter from the Saskatchewan nicknamed Angel, with whom The Press spoke online. According to him, Luke was injured and his three comrades in arms “refused to fall back” and led a charge to assist the then unconscious Luke. Another shot from a Russian tank would have instantly killed the four fighters, who “did not suffer”.
