By winning the Northern Star award, given to the athlete of the year in Canada, hockey player from Beauce Marie-Philip Poulin became the first Quebecer from hockey to win such an honor, after Maurice Richard, Guy Lafleur and Mario Lemieux.
If I had a word that would describe the Beauceronne, it would be the word “talent”. Marie-Philip has a knack for positioning herself at the right time in the right place to take advantage of a breakaway and succeed in skillfully outsmarting the opposing goalkeeper. In addition, her passes to her teammates are always precise. In the corners of the rink, she has an extraordinary ability to get the puck out and pass it in front of the net to a teammate.
The one who wears the “C” on her sweater is an unparalleled unifier, as much in defeat as in victory. Her leadership is felt as much on the bench as on the ice and in the players’ locker room. For Marie-Philip, team spirit is the vein that leads to victory.
Hats off to you, Marie-Philip, for your constant determination. You richly deserve this honor, and I am convinced that it will help to create more enthusiasm for the development of women’s hockey and finally give birth to a women’s hockey league in Canada.
