A public health expert for QS

Hostilities are launched. Medical specialist in public health Mélissa Généreux will be a candidate for the nomination of Québec solidaire in the riding of Saint-François in view of the October 2022 elections, learned The newspaper.

This candidacy, which should be announced at the beginning of the week, gives a taste of the themes that will be put forward during the next election campaign.

François Legault will have to prepare in particular to defend his management of the epidemic of COVID-19 and his plan for the reconstruction of the health network.

Medical consultant in public health and associate professor at the University of Sherbrooke, Mélissa Généreux is not unknown to the Estriens.

She held the position of public health director for Estrie during the Lac-Mégantic rail tragedy.

Columnist on the airwaves of Cogeco, she was called upon to comment on the evolution of the pandemic and the choices of the CAQ government during the last two years of the pandemic.

She also led a survey on the impact of the crisis on the mental health of Quebecers.

For those in solidarity, who want to present themselves to Quebecers as a real alternative to the Legault government, it is a candidacy that would serve to strengthen their credibility in terms of health.

Deficiency to be corrected for QS

Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois and Manon Massé no longer have representatives from this sector on their team since the departure of MP and microbiologist-infectiologist Amir Khadir. A shortcoming that the party wishes to correct, we are told.

The expertise of the DD Mélissa Généreux would be called upon to ensure that the political party has proposals in hand to consolidate public health, prepare it for other waves and other epidemics.

But the game is far from won for the doctor. The riding of Saint-François is currently represented in the National Assembly by CAQ member Geneviève Hébert.

The latter had won the last electoral battle without great difficulty with a lead of 4,500 votes over her liberal rival, closely followed by the solidarity candidate.

Note that another doctor has already represented this county of Estrie. Elected in 2012 under the banner of the Parti Québécois, the Dr Réjean Hébert was Minister of Health in the government of Pauline Marois, before biting the dust in front of the Liberal Guy Hardy in the 2014 election.
