“A provocation that goes beyond understanding”: Geneviève de Fontenay tackles Sylvie Tellier again

Geneviève de Fontenay is angry. The situation with Sylvie Tellier is not getting better, and she has decided to let it be known again. She’s the president of the Miss France committee, that’s it!

It was via a press release that the lady in the hat, now 89 years old, wanted to send a message to her rival of almost always. She wrote there: “To the approach of the election of Miss France 2022 on December 11 in Caen, I would like to firmly remind you that I am and remain the President of the Miss France Committee. The abusive use of this function by Sylvie Tellier constitutes yet another provocation which is beyond comprehension! It is inadmissible that she publishes again a book in which she brazenly lies while inventing a double false centenary! I remind you that the Miss France election, organized by Maurice de Waleffe, was born in 1928 at the request of Miss Universe and that, concerning me, we are not yet in 2032. Today, in my capacity as president of the Committee Miss France, I invite the Miss to donate 1000 euros of the salary they will receive to mayors or associations to help families in difficulty, children in need.

The book to which Geneviève de Fontenay refers is Miss France 1920-2021, bringing together photographs and testimonies of the strong moments that have marked the history of this beauty contest, from Agnès Souret, first elected in 1920 to Amandine Petit, chosen by the French in 2020. The book also evokes the launch of the election, the arrival of Geneviève de Fontenay and the first television broadcast.

So here is a new attack against Sylvie Tellier. In addition to the personal attacks of the past year, Geneviève de Fontenay had not hesitated to boycott the election and had refused the invitation of her former Miss France to participate in the election of the competition. “She invited me but I said to her ‘you are swollen, you are inviting me to something that is mine’. She stole my life! The centenary could only suit me, not Sylvie Tellier“, said the octogenarian.

The contest organizer beauty from 1952 to 2010 has therefore still not digested to have been replaced at the head of the committee. In 2010, she left her post, justifying her decision by denouncing the non-respect of her values. “We were really France. The France of the land, the France of traditions, it is this France that I love. It’s not the France people, at all“, she said again a few months ago.
