Fight against sexual abuse in the church: this is the objective of a protocol which has just been signed this Wednesday between the Bishopric – the diocese of Nîmes – and the parquet floors of Nîmes and Alès (Gard). This agreement provides that the religious authority signals the “ acts of a sexual nature committed on minors or vulnerable adults by a member of the clergy of the Catholic Church or by religious seminarians, by lay people, or by salaried or voluntary staff working within an establishment belonging to the Catholic Church or to private Catholic education. “For its part, the justice system formally undertakes to process these reports and to pronounce sanctions in the event of proven facts.
The protocol is signed by the Bishop of Nîmes Nicolas Brouwet, Eric Maurel the public prosecutor of Nîmes and François Schneider, the public prosecutor of Alès.
