Two deputies The Republicans table want to regulate the use of screens for young children. Elected officials table a bill to this effect on Monday April 8 in the Chamber.

Children in strollers, eyes glued to their phones, toddlers absorbed in their tablets… Two Republican MPs want to put an end to these practices. In a bill tabled on Monday April 8 in the National Assembly, parliamentarians propose banning screens before the age of three, in nurseries, and for children looked after by childminders.

Educational staff must be trained

“On average at this age, children already spend 1 hour 20 minutes per day in front of screens”specifies the deputy LR Antoine Vermorel-Marques, at the origin of this proposal which he considers necessary to alleviate the consequences on the health of children, “notably cognitive”. This text also provides that the ban on screens is an approval criterion for professionals working with young children. Specific training on the use of screens must also be offered to early childhood professionals and school teachers. According to a study carried out in 2022, children under the age of two spend an average of 3 hours 11 minutes per day on screens.
