An Environment Canada meteorologist said Quebec could still be hit by severe thunderstorms during the day on Sunday.
The day before, a possible tornado caused significant damage in the Laurentians. Environment Canada said a storm hit Saturday night near Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard. Strong winds downed trees and heavily damaged homes.
Peter Kimbell said further analysis is needed to confirm it was a tornado and determine its strength. The province could still be hit by extreme weather, he added.
Hydro-Québec reported major power outages affecting several hundred customers in the Laurentians and Lanaudière.
“The tornado that hit several municipalities in the Laurentians yesterday caused significant damage to the distribution network. The work to be done to restore power is sometimes complex and the land remains difficult to access, ”wrote the state company on Twitter on Sunday.
In some cases, power may not be restored for two or three days, she added.
