A police officer on duty in front of the Ministry of the Interior in Paris was attacked on Thursday February 8, franceinfo learned from a police source. An individual who tried to enter the courtyard grabbed her by the throat around 8 p.m., adds the same source.

The man “was trying to get into the ministry”, confirmed on BFMTV the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nunez, on Friday. The policewoman, assigned to guard the ministry, “prevented him” and that’s when“he jumped on him”he clarified.

The police officers who provide surveillance around Place Beauvau quickly intervened to control the individual and arrest him, continued the police prefect. The officer, slightly injured, was hospitalized for “a suspected fracture”.

He “claimed nothing” during the events

The man arrested “seems quite psychologically disturbed”, added Laurent Nunez. He “did not speak during the events or claim anything”for his part specified a source close to the matter to franceinfo.

The suspect, born in Paris in 2003, was placed in police custody, the Paris prosecutor’s office told franceinfo, specifying that “the investigations relate to the facts and his criminal responsibility”. An investigation into “violence against a person holding public authority” has been opened.
