A policewoman and a suspect killed in Louiseville

The Independent Investigations Bureau has launched an investigation into the circumstances of a police intervention where a man was shot and a policewoman stabbed to death Monday evening in Louiseville, Mauricie.

This is Sergeant Maureen Breau, who had more than 20 years of experience with the Sûreté du Québec, confirms the organization. Another police officer was injured during this intervention, but there is no fear for his life.


According to initial information, two police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were called around 8:30 p.m. to intervene to arrest an individual who was uttering threats in an apartment building near Saint-Laurent Avenue.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect would have taken a dagger which was nearby to strike the two officers, fatally hitting the policewoman, who would have fallen from the second floor.

At the same time, two other SQ police officers dispatched to the scene for the same case would then have fired in the direction of the agitated individual, who was shot after being shot.

Five investigators from the Office of Independent Investigations were in charge of the case, while a parallel criminal investigation into the events was entrusted to the Montreal Police Department.
