The police station in the Argonne district of Orléans (Loiret) was targeted by an arson on the night of Monday to Tuesday, reports France Bleu Orléans. The fire started from garbage cans placed in front of the doors of the police station.
According to the images from the CCTV cameras, it was four hooded people who set fire to these trash cans and placed them in front of the doors of the building. It was the security guard of the neighboring building who notified the fire department.
The fire did not cause any casualties. The facades of the building, on the other hand, were badly damaged. “It is quite clear that this fire is of criminal origin”declared on the spot the prosecutor of the Republic of Orleans, Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren, who evokes two departures of fire at the level of the building. “It is an extremely serious act”adds the prosecutor.
According to the departmental director of public security, Thierry Guiguet-Doron, the police station will be able to reopen this Wednesday. The damage is estimated at several thousand euros. According to him, this fire may be linked to a police intervention a few days earlier to dismantle a narcotics outlet in the neighborhood. “We are going to increase the controls, contrary to what the traffickers hope, we will be even more present.”
An investigation has been opened by the departmental security.
