a player attacked during Bordeaux-Rodez, the match definitively stopped

Lucas Buades, scorer in the match of the 38th day of Ligue 2 between Bordeaux and Rodez on Friday, was jostled by a supporter of the Girondins. The referee of the meeting, Nicolas Rainville, decided to stop the meeting definitively.

It was to be a festive evening at the Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux. A year after their relegation to Ligue 2, the Girondins could find the elite in the event of victory, Friday June 3, against Rodez at home. The spectacle was however cut short after 22 small minutes of play, during the opener of the score of the visiting team, after which the match was definitively interrupted. Scorer, Lucas Buades was indeed jostled by a Girondins supporter who entered the lawn.

At first glance innocuous, the aggression caused consequences for the player “concussed” as referee Nicolas Rainville said during an improvised press conference after the match. Buades was thus unable to resume the game. After a long interruption of the match, Nicolas Rainville therefore presented himself to announce his decision: match definitively stopped. An act heavy with meaning but in accordance with the regulations, as the official clarified.

The player was examined by the visiting club doctor and the emergency doctor on duty. The elements are conclusive and the player cannot resume the match because he is concussed. In collaboration with the team of delegates and the LFP, we have respected the regulations, namely that the match will not resume“, clarified the referee.

An uncertain end to the season

The situation distorts this 38th and last day of Ligue 2, during which Bordeaux therefore played the climb, while Rodez fought to maintain it. At the same time as these events at Matmut Atlantique, the other nine matches of this last round continued. The match interrupted because of a Bordeaux supporter, will the Girondins be sanctioned and will they have lost the match?

A report will be drawn up and it is the disciplinary and competition commissions that will be in charge of this file.“, specified Nicolas Rainville. As it is indicated in the disciplinary regulations of the LFP, “any attack on the physical integrity of the actors of the match, whether or not the match is definitively stopped, is likely, for the club responsible for the incidents, to lead to a withdrawal of point(s) in the classification of the team in as part of a current or future competition“.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP), which will meet on Monday, will therefore decide on the procedure to follow. In the event of withdrawal of points, Bordeaux would be condemned to play one more season in Ligue 2 because the club with the scapular could no longer overtake FC Metz in the standings, winner Friday evening against Bastia (3-2).

Bordeaux want to replay the match

The other possibility is that the match between Bordeaux and Rodez is replayed. Asked by La Chaîne L’Équipe, Pierre-Olivier Murat, the president of the Rodez club, dismissed this hypothesis: “In the regulations, I have never seen a game replayed after the end of the season. But we will take note of the decision, we will stand behind it, whatever it is.

In a press conference after the interruption of the meeting, Gérard Lopez, the president of Bordeaux, positioned himself to replay the match: “It is clear that I would like it to be played sportingly and on a field. After all, it’s football.“The Bordeaux leader, who announced that the Girondins would file a complaint against the supporter who committed the attack, also argued that the club with the scapular”will argue all [ses] rights, [ses] appeal rights“before the Disciplinary Committee of the LFP.

Metz and Annecy also bear the brunt of this dirty evening at the Matmut Atlantique. The Messins hoped to celebrate their rise after their victory against Bastia (3-2). The Annecy residents hoped to formalize their maintenance, depending on the result between Bordeaux and Rodez. Finally, the four clubs – Metz, Bordeaux, Rodez and Annecy – will have to wait until Monday and the decision of the disciplinary committee to know, with certainty, what follow-up will be given to this totally crazy evening.
