Army: harassment and sexual violence denounced
(France 2)
For 10 years, a platform has been set up to collect testimonies of harassment and sexual violence in the French army. However, some women feel that they are not heard enough. Testimonials.
Women decided to step out of line and break the silence of the great mute. They dare to openly denounce the attacks they suffered in the army and the silence. Manon Dubois joined the army at the age of 18. She boards a boat off the coast of Brest (Brittany), and becomes the prey of another soldier. “He told me that I was his thing, and that I would always belong to him,” remembers the former soldier. Faced with her numerous attacks, she breaks down in front of her superiors and files a complaint. He received a 10-day layoff, paid him 600 euros in damages but kept his place as a sailor. Manon Dubois is no longer safe on a boat.
There is still a way to go
The Thémis Cell was created ten years ago to make it possible to report incidents of sexual violence within the army. Thibault de Laforcade, Controller General of the Armed Forces and boss of the platform, recognizes that there is still a way to go. 700 people contacted the platform last year, around fifty sanctions were taken.
