A plane carrying 303 Indians grounded at a Marne airport due to suspicions of “human trafficking”

A plane from the Romanian company Legend Airlines, carrying 303 passengers of Indian nationality, has been held since Thursday, December 21 at Paris-Vatry airport, in Marne. Having left the United Arab Emirates for Nicaragua, he landed there for a technical stopover. His prolonged immobilization is explained by “suspicions of human trafficking”announced Friday the Marne prefecture and the Paris prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation.

This immobilization follows “anonymous information”underlines the prosecution, which checks whether “elements would corroborate” these suspicions. “Identity checks were carried out on the 303 passengers and cabin crew” by the air transport gendarmerie brigade, details the press release.

Two passengers in custody

The Paris prosecutor’s office told France Bleu Champagne-Ardennes that two of the passengers were placed in police custody, “in order to verify whether their role could have been different from that of the others in this transport, under what conditions and with what objective”.

The investigation was entrusted to thea National jurisdiction for the fight against organized crime. The National Directorate of Border Police, the Air Transport Gendarmerie and the Vitry-le-François search brigade were jointly seized. LHuman trafficking is punishable by 20 years of criminal imprisonment and a fine of 3 million euros.

The Marne prefecture specifies to France Bleu Champagne-Ardenne that the passengers, who initially remained on the plane “where they could eat”are now picked up from the airport reception hall/
