In the United States, Joe Biden provides various bonuses to citizens who buy electric cars, manufactured on American soil or on sites where unions are established. The measures favor old American companies.
Joe Biden wants to launch a big American plan to promote the electric automobile. “We are going to give a big boost to the manufacture of clean vehicles, with new bonuses and tax cuts to promote the American industry.” According to the White House plan, buyers of any electric vehicle will benefit from a government bonus of 6,600 euros. It will go up to 11,000 euros if the car is made in the United States and in factories with unions.
The plan was passed in the House of Representatives but now needs to go through the Senate. Some are already firing red balls, especially in Europe. The boss of Demler and Mercedes cried out at unfair competition and the European Commission wrote to the US Senate. “With this bill Joe Biden does what he was elected for: a Democratic president, but in line with his predecessor in terms of protectionism”, concludes the correspondent of France Télévisions in the United States, Loïc De La Mornais.
