A phosphorus grenade found in a garden near Bayeux

A resident of Tessel (Calvados) dug up a phosphorus grenade while gardening, this Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2 p.m. He realized this when he saw the smoke coming from his garden. Phosphorus has the particularity of catching fire on contact with air.

The firefighters intervened in covering the pomegranate with earth to put out the fire. A demining team will take care of extracting the ammunition which dates from the Second World War.

A discovery that is not not so rare in Calvadosaccording to firefighters.
