Olivier Louise’s family took the time to grieve before launching a petition on January 31 to demand securing the banks of the Orne. On July 16, 2021, the 23-year-old was found dead near the Bir Hakeim bridge in Caen, near La Prairie. For investigators he would have fallen in the water.
Security railings and surveillance cameras
It is to avoid another tragedy that Emilie Louise, the sister of the victim says today to mobilize. As was done around the St Pierre basin in Caen after several drownings, it is necessary to install safety railings “all along the quays of the Orne or at least cameras to be able to control what is happening there“.
There is nothing
The young woman is worried about the absence of railings on the banks or “from seats and tables have been installed and where young people very often settle in the summer“. But to avoid an accident, “there is nothing: just a mini-ledge“that the young woman from Caen even finds dangerous : “all you have to do is get your foot caught in it and you fall into the water“Besides, families with children avoid walking here assures Emilie Louise.
Contacted by France Bleu Normandie, the town hall of Caen ensures thatconsideration may be considered but that the installation of safety railings along the quays is not currently on the agenda.
