After a forum signed by more than 1,400 scientists, thousands of citizens are demanding a greater place for the climate in political debates. More than 48,000 people have signed a petition launched on February 17 by the collective L’Affaire du siècle, to “putting the climate back at the heart of the debate for the presidential election”.
The text regrets that“A few weeks before the first round of the presidential election, the climate emergency and the collapse of biodiversity are largely absent from the media and political debate”. The collective, which has already condemned the State to justice for climate inaction, wonders: “How can we claim to defend the rule of law without saying how we intend to get France out of climate illegality?”
The signatories call in particular on the responsibility of the media and journalists to question the candidates on these subjects. They rcall for the climate crisis to affect all aspects of our daily lives, “our energy bills, our jobs, our crops, our food, our preparation for heat waves or natural disasters.”
