A Peter Doig enters the Museum of Fine Arts

On the sidelines of a benefit event organized on June 4 in Toronto, under the sponsorship of the Canadian collector and patron W. Bruce C. Bailey, which raised nearly a million dollars, the painter Peter Doig made the gift of his painting Study for Iron Hill at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA).

Inspired by the childhood memories of the British artist of Scottish origin, renowned for having breathed new life into contemporary figurative painting.

Study for Iron Hill (1991) is the first work by Doig to enter the collection of the MMFA, which devoted an exhibition to him in 2014.

“It is rare for an institution like ours to find such a loyal friend as Bruce. His loyalty and affection for the MMFA and for Quebec culture make him a true patron. […] His love of art is matched only by his friendship for artists, a friendship which has earned us this gift of an incomparable work by Peter Doig, one of the greatest painters of our time”, said by way of from Stéphane Aquin, Executive Director of the MMFA.

Hundreds of personalities from the world of culture also contributed financially to the Canadian Country Party organized by W. Bruce C. Bailey.
