A person suspected of having a link with the weapon used by the perpetrator of the attack perpetrated on October 16 in Brussels was arrested on Wednesday October 25, announced the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office.

She will “interviewed by investigators during the day regarding her possible involvement with the weapon used” during the attack, the prosecution said. “We are trying to find out who made this weapon of war available, who sold it or gave it away” to the attacker, declared the new Minister of Justice, Paul Van Tigchelt, during a hearing before a special parliamentary committee. No details were given on the identity of the arrested suspect.

The alleged assailant, Abdesalem Lassoued, a 45-year-old radicalized Tunisian resident illegally in Belgium, was shot dead on October 17 by Belgian police, and “an AR-15 type war weapon” had been found next to him, the federal prosecutor’s office then specified. The attack cost the lives of two Swedes who came to support their national football team in Belgium.
