A People & Baby crèche, from the same group as an establishment suspended in Lyon after the death of a child, was closed in Bordeaux on July 19 for three months by the Gironde prefecture, the Bordeaux town hall announced on Monday. In its decree, consulted by AFP, the prefecture notes “inappropriate behavior of three professionals supervising children” exhibited in a “report sent by the juvenile prosecutor’s office”namely “inappropriate cries and words during outings in the outdoor space located in the parking lot of the building”.

The text also mentions a report by a doctor from the Maternal Childhood Protection of July 11 which mentions “(a) malaise of the children, (a) climate of discouragement and insecurity in the crèche, (the) presence of a child unknown to the professionals present, (a) operational manager unreachable”.
According to the decree, the temporary closure was “solicited” by the department, which manages the authorizations for the opening and operation of the crèche.
At the end of June, in Lyon, an eleven-month-old girl died in a crèche belonging to the same group. An employee was indicted for intentional homicide, suspected of having made the child ingest a caustic product. The establishment was closed for three months and the government seized the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (Igas).
In Bordeaux, the town hall which reserved “25 seats out of 32” in this crèche, explained knowing that the establishment “encountered operational difficulties for several years, even before its takeover by People & Baby”.
