The driver of a truck fatally hit a pedestrian late Thursday afternoon in the Saint-Michel district. The victim died instantly.
A young woman in her “early twenties” was hit by the driver of a heavy vehicle on Thursday around 4:20 p.m. at the corner of rue Bélair and 22e avenue, confirms the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). The scene took place right in front of a daycare center.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 54-year-old man, was not injured in the collision.
Work on Boulevard Pie-IX, just next door, has recently caused an increase in traffic in the area, noted Marcel Machabée, a resident of the area. “It’s a dangerous intersection. [Les conducteurs] try to cut through the small streets, but that’s where the drama happens. »
