(Rimouski) A pedestrian is between life and death after being hit by a motorist in Saint-Anaclet, in Bas-Saint-Laurent, Sunday evening.
The victim, an octogenarian, was crossing rue de la Gare in this village in the MRC of Rimouski-Neigette, when a person driving a vehicle hit him, around 7 p.m.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the pedestrian was walking in a poorly lit area. It appears to be an accidental collision, without any criminal element, said SQ spokesperson Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.
The pedestrian was transported to a hospital, where his life is feared.
The SQ dispatched a patrol officer specializing in collision investigation to the scene.
The Ministry of Transport specifies on its Québec 511 website that rue de la Gare was closed in both directions between rue Blanchette and rue Gagné due to the accident.
No information was available about the driver of the vehicle.
