On the morning of Wednesday April 27, a tragedy occurred on the highway A43 between Chambéry (Savoie) and Lyon (Rhône). Two highway agents were mowed down by a German motorist under the influence of narcotics. One of the two patrollers, aged 54, did not survive.
Two officers were finishing removing traffic cones on a section of the freeway A43when a car mowed them down on the morning of Wednesday, April 27. The accident happened around 5:30about fifty kilometers from Lyon (Rhone). One of the officers did not survive the collision. The other is seriously injured: his vital prognosis is still engaged.
The driver of the car, who tested positive for narcotics, was taken into custody. This is the second fatal accident in a month for highway personnel. Indeed, on April 5, another patroller died in the Gard, hit by a heavy truck. High-risk working conditions regularly denounced by patrol officers. “We really have to be hyper vigilant as soon as we intervene“, explains Benoît Blot, one of these patrollers. Each year in France, there are approximately 130 accidents involving motorway personnel.
