The result of a parliamentary commission, a report on sports federations denounces inter-community, the culture of secrecy and lies, as well as failures in the fight against sexual violence.

Sports federations are in the sights of deputies. Six months with the Paris Olympic Games, a damning parliamentary report was published. He points to “serious dysfunctions in the processing of reports” sexual violence and “major failures in the response of the federations”. According to the commission’s rapporteur, victims too often encounter a lack of listening. “We must not tarnish the image of sport, we must not tarnish the image of the club, so we protect ourselves,” condemns Sabrina Sebaihi, MP (EELV-NUPES) for Hauts-de-Seine.

Denouncing “let it happen”

For months, the commission’s deputies heard 180 people, including ministers, sports officials and athletes who were victims of violence. Tennis player Angélique Couchy, a victim of rape when she was 12 to 14 years old by her coach, denounces “a laissez-faire attitude in the world of sport”. The deputies are calling for the creation of an independent body to guarantee neutrality in the investigation.
