The deputy Les Républicains, Marie-Christine Dalloz, denounces expenses “sometimes lavish” in terms of communication for the French presidency of the European Union (January-June 2022) in a report consulted on Wednesday June 7 by AFP. The elected representative of the Jura, who judges globally “positive” the political assessment of the French presidency, wonders on the other hand about “some expenses that seemed out of step with the economic situation” from the country.

Marie-Christine Dalloz mainly criticizes “communication expenses” of the order of “3.5 million euros”, according to her, and recommends making more use of sponsorship in this area. In particular, she points to the 739,380 euros spent on the illumination of the Eiffel Tower.

The report questions the ceremonial gifts

The rapporteur also wonders about “1.2 million euros spent on promotional items and ceremonial gifts intended for a very varied public (ministers, collaborators, senior civil servants, journalists)“. She claims “a reflection on the categories of beneficiaries in order to reduce the costs of this item of expenditure”.

This report was carried out as part of the Spring of Evaluation, a meeting established at the National Assembly since 2018 to further control public policies.
