Six months before the Paris Olympic Games, a damning report was presented on Tuesday January 23 to the National Assembly. After five months of investigation, the authors of the report denounce failures in the fight against sexual violence and call for the creation of an independent authority.
6 months before the start of the Olympic Games, sports federations are singled out by a parliamentary report which denounces serious dysfunctions in the treatment of sexual violence, but also systemic failures in the responses of the federations. For 5 months, deputies from all political stripes interviewed 193 people: sports officials but also athletes who were victims of violence like Angélique Cauchy, raped by her coach from the age of 12 to 14.
MEPs want the creation of an independent authority
Among the 60 proposals made in the report, the deputies call for a strengthening and expansion of the Signal Sport platform launched by the government, with the aim of freeing speech. “I fully wish for the creation of an independent administrative authority responsible for the ethics and integrity of sport,” declared Béatrice Bellamy, MP (Horizons) for Vendée. Monday January 22, the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra denounced a text “activist” And “instrumentalized”.
