More exactly, this road is built on the basis of the recycling of papermaking waste. Every year, the paper industry rejects 11 tons of waste. The Spanish company Acciona, which works in environmental, economic and social sustainable development, has joined the Paperchain project, a consortium of 5 European countries, involved in the recycling of waste from the paper industry. The surface of the road that leads from Valencia to La Fonte de Figuera is made from paper manufacturing waste instead of cement.
The manufacture of this material emits 70% less CO² than during the manufacture of cement, which is very polluting, while meeting the same requirements.
