Modern industry, a theme dear to Fernand Léger

It sits in the middle of the other paintings. The work of Fernand Léger is the star of this auction organized at the Haras de Bois Roussel, in Bursard, by AuctavArt. “It represents terribly well what the Builders were, even if there are no workers. It is completely his post-war work” explains James Fattori, AuctavArt auctioneer. “I like the shapes imposed by modern industry. I maintain that a machine gun or the breech of a 75 are more subject to painting than four apples on a table or a landscape of Saint-Cloud” said Fernand Léger. Since his discovery of the Air Show in 1912, the artist was fascinated by the mechanical element, the plastic possibilities of which he explored. At the beginning of the 1950s, with his Builders series, he became interested in workers with themes that always revolved around mechanics and machines. He even exhibited some of these paintings in the canteen of the Renault factory in Billancourt.

An online auction

Among the other items on sale, art lovers will find jewelry, watches, contemporary paintings, furniture, decorative objects from the 18e century in the 20e century. The old and the design come together. “Here, it’s the atmosphere 18e century. Something that has disappeared a little. The market is in decline but it remains quality. And on the other side, you have what people are looking for, what we see in the newspapers, designer furniture.” specifies James Fattori. The AuctavArt auction house is the latest addition to the Aucatv group, specializing in racehorse auctions. It has the particularity of organizing its sales exclusively online.
