A one-month-old baby disappeared in the Rivière des Mille Îles

A mother and her two children dived into the Rivière des Mille Îles from a vehicle on Friday afternoon. Emergency services were able to rescue the woman in her thirties and a 4-year-old girl, but a one-month-old baby is still missing on Saturday.

After searching the waters of the river for several hours on Friday evening, Laval firefighters had to suspend their search due to darkness. The operation resumed Saturday morning with the collaboration of divers and the helicopter of the Sûreté du Québec.

A 9-1-1 call was received on Friday around 4:45 p.m. to report the presence of a partially submerged vehicle in the river near the intersection between rue des Érables and chemin Saint-Antoine, at the limit Laval-sur-le-Lac and Laval-Ouest districts.

The woman is still hospitalized and will be met by investigators when her condition allows, said Saturday morning the spokesperson for the Laval Police Service (SPL), Erika Landry. The little girl is out of danger.

In addition to searches by the emergency services on the water and in the air, the SPL asks residents to check their banks, in case the baby is there. The body could have been transported by the waters for several kilometers, specifies Ms. Landry.

SPL Crimes Against the Person investigators are continuing their investigation to try to figure out how the vehicle ended up in the water.
