A nurse and a medical secretary were stabbed at the hospital in Reims (Marne) on Monday, May 22 at the start of the afternoon, AFP learned from the Reims public prosecutor’s office, confirming a information from The union. The vital prognosis of one of them is engaged, said the same source.
The two victims, injured, are aged 37 and 56, said Matthieu Bourrette, prosecutor of Reims, in a press release. “An investigation for attempted assassination” was opened and entrusted to the central police station in Reims.
An act “without apparent motive”
The 59-year-old suspect was arrested. “He was never convicted, but had been indicted in Châlons-en-Champagne for acts of aggravated violence, had benefited in June 2022 from a dismissal order for criminal irresponsibility”, said the prosecutor in a press release. The man “seems to suffer from severe disorders and has been the subject of a reinforced curatorship measure for several years”. He seems to have acted “without apparent motive, especially since he had no appointment in this service and was not followed within this service”. A knife was found in a pocket of his pants.
“I express my deep emotion after the violent attack, at the beginning of the afternoon, of a nurse and a medical secretary at the CHU de Reims”Health Minister François Braun said on Twitter. “To assure the teams of my support and that of my ministry, I will go there” Monday night, he added.
