Slicked back hair, blues notes and impeccable English songs, Alexis Evans seems straight out of the 60s. The young singer and guitarist from Bordeaux is keen always by style rhythm and blues. From childhood, his English father introduced him to Afro-American music, then the musician cut his teeth in jazz clubs, before winning at barely 17, the Young Talent Prize at the Cognac Blues Passion festival, a springboard in the middle.
Today at the head of a group that bears his name, he has already released two albums: Girl Bait in 2016, and I’ve come a long way three years later. His next album expected this year is at the end of recording. At the heart of a small home studio, the artist wrote and composed most of the pieces himself. This disc promises to oscillate between languorous blues and energetic funk. “All I listen to is jazz, rocksteady, I like all that, but you have to have a little fun too“with the styles, explains Alexis Evans.
To wait before the release of the album, the group toured the stages this summer. Once in the spotlight, the six musicians can’t stay still, trumpets, guitars and vitaminized pieces, the atmosphere is assured. “It’s very festive, it’s dance music at the base and then Alexis, he goes to get people so it always works”, adds band drummer Eric Boreave.
To discover them, the group returns to the poster of the Relache music festival on July 12th. In the heart of Bordeaux, this event, organized for twelve years by the association Allez les filles, offers dozens of free or low-cost concerts to help make culture accessible to all and support local artists.
