Saturday January 28, 2023 Ophélie Meunier participated in the show CLHebdo to present the survey Restricted zone devoted to Ehpads, highlighting their shortcomings and dysfunctions. A file that comes a year after the Orpea scandal, triggered by the book The Gravediggers by Victor Castanet. In the extract proposed by the journalist, we see in particular the daily life of Jean, 92, a resident of an Orpea retirement home, located on the Côte d’Azur. In the space of ten months, the nonagenarian has lost 30 kilos, almost all of his motor skills and most of his teeth. Furious, his family, who blames this situation on the staff of the Ehpad, decided to testify, wishing to free the floor on this subject which is still too taboo: “People need to understand the dangers that can exist in nursing homes” explains Catherine, Jean’s daughter. The journalists from Zone Interdit therefore set out for a year to meet the main players in this particular sector which concerns 1.5 million dependent people in France. A number that could rise to 2 million by 2040.

“She wants to take him out of his establishment, it’s unacceptable”
On the set of CLHebdo, at the end of the broadcast of the extract from the program where we see the director of the nursing home offering the family of a resident the one and only solution to choose another establishment, Ophélie Meunier held to express themselves. Not to truly defend this director but above all to point out the shortcomings of an entire system: “It’s abandonment… She certainly has a good heart, this director and I’m pointing it out, because it’s not in the documentary, it’s that she’s only been there for a few months, there’s a turn -over incredible and that is very bad for the stability of families and the care of the elderly.”, specifies first of all the journalist of M6 before adding:So she’s only been there for a few months, well you see, she’s not aware of the situation at all, she says ‘there’s nothing I can do’ and even worse she says ‘I can help you put your daddy somewhere else’.
